The second pregnancy brings a whole new excitement that is very different although equally as intense as the first. The soon to be mommy of a second child will probably be reminded how special it can be to have an infant around. She is starting all over again and wants for things to be beautiful and unique. Here are some great ways to choose the perfect baby shower for your second baby!
Find Something Completely Different -
This time, indulge yourself. Find something unique that you really love for your second baby shower cake. If you have fallen in love with cute little characters that you've watched with your first child, you may want to go that route. This baby shower should be all about honoring the mother as well as the unborn baby! Get what you want and make it your decision.
Have Fun with Pink or Blue -
If your new baby is going to be a different sex from your older child, you can really have a good time getting to go the other way this time. Perhaps you will have a little sister for your son or a little brother for your daughter. By this time, if you have a son, you are sick of trucks, blue and dinosaurs. If you have a daughter, pink is overrated, dolls are overdone and you can do without another soft and cuddly unicorn or teddy bear. This is where you get to go all out and get the cute little boy or little girl stuff you didn't get to get the first time! Choose a cake that reflects that and have fun with it.
Get Your Child Involved -
A great way to have your older child become involved is to let them pick the cake. Of course, depending on their age, you can guide them some, but telling them that the cake is for a little sister or brother and letting them go with it can make things really fun and interesting. Let them pick the cake! You will be involving your child with the new baby and you will have a beautiful story to tell them as they grow!
Can't Decide?
That's okay! Pick several different cakes and have mini ones made. You can judge the amount of mini cakes by the number of people they serve and how many people are attending the baby shower. This can be really fun because you get to have it all and you don't have to choose one or the other. Most bakeries will agree to do this for you, but in some instances you may have to pay extra.
Make it All About You -
At this point, you deserve for something to be all about you, so choose a baby shower cake that reflects what you love. If you want pink flowers and purple hearts on your cake, get them! After all, your baby won't care; it's not like he or she gets to have any of it directly anyway! Be selfish for once, Mom! Choose a cake that you want...simply because you want it.
