4 Letter Learning Activities For Your Toddler

By Anna L

To be able to read you have to learn the Alphabet. If your child knows the alphabet before they start school they will have an advantage over children who don't. Most importantly make the learning fun. Here are some fun Letter Learning you can do with your toddler.

1. Learning the letters of their name - The easiest letter to learn is the one starting your toddler's name. My son loves the letter E, first letter of his name. He learned it and now he let us know every time he sees an E. Exit, E in books, E in the grocery store - he sees E everywhere. When your toddler learned the first letter, move on to the next one in their name. Toddlers remember easier if you make a fun game out of it. Come up with a song and have your toddler learn it. We use the BINGO song. E - L - L - I -O - T... Elliot is your name.

2. The Alphabet Song - Let your toddler listen to the song. Then have your toddler learn the song. Look at the Alphabet at the same time you sing the song. It could be an Alphabet book, puzzle or just write it down on a piece of paper. Have your toddler pointing to the letters when you sing the song.

3. Letter Hunting - Have your toddler pick a letter for the day. Decide how many "things" you will hunt 5-10 usually works well. Then you go around your house and find the letter you are looking for in books, toys, fruits and veggies, clothes anything you can come up with. Collect the things in a pile, your toddler will love seeing the pile grow. Then have your toddler help you clean up.

4. Coloring Letters - If your toddler loves coloring this is a great way to learn letters. Get a coloring book with letters or print off letters from the computer that she can color. Check out the Coloring program with Letters and Numbers at www.helpmeandmyfamily.com.
