Think baby shower, and you think of a haggle of women laughing and joking as the mother to be opens her presents. These are what traditional baby showers are like, but there's no rule that says that this is exactly how they have to be. Adventurous girls these days are going off the beaten path to look for party ideas for their shower. If you think the entire cackling women scenario is a little corny, you'll enjoy these ideas for a different baby shower complete with baby shower favors, food and decorations.
There's always been an unwritten rule that baby showers are strictly women's territory, and guys aren't allowed in. But like the bridals shower, these conventions are being given a miss by modern moms who want to celebrate the arrival of their baby with male friends, relatives and husband in tow. If you're looking to throw an enjoyable party for your sister or friends, invite her male friends, and make sure her husband has a prominent place to play in the proceedings.
A mixed shower will call for some changes in the kind of activities you plan for the shower. Games will have to be developed to include male guests and baby shower favors will have to include items that guys like. Fortunately, you don't have to worry about the favors - you'll easily find lots of goodies for the guys.
Or plan a couple's shower. Do away with the traditional shower tables and plan a sit down formal dinner for just the parents to be and their couple friends. If you're throwing the shower for your friends, remember to ask guests to bring along baby gifts of their choice or make suggestions depending on what the mother needs. You want to have some elements of the shower to differentiate it from just another party. Baby gift baskets, baby bunches and other collections of assorted items are always an excellent choice.
If a sit down dinner isn't your style, invite couple friends of the parents to a casual brunch at their home. If it's summer maybe an evening outdoor, grilling steaks...the only rule is there are no rules. Smaller intimate dinners like these give the mother a chance to relax with her closest friends and are perfect especially if you know, mom has been having a difficult time with her pregnancy, and might be overwhelmed with a traditional baby shower.
