Baby Shower Favors - How to Cut Your Costs in Half

By Caroline Miller

Not everyone who's being generous enough to throw a shower will have unlimited funds to spend on every facet of the shower. There's food to take care of, gifts for prizes for the games at the party, and let's not forget, the baby shower favors that each guest will clutch as they leave the party.

It makes sense to give your guests beautiful and useful baby shower favors. After all, they've taken the time to attend the shower, and congratulated the soon to be mom, and they've made to a point to arrive with baby gifts that the mother will love. Most of all, they've shared their experience with the mother, encouraged her before her big day, and given countless gems of wisdom and advice that she can use as she begins this journey of a lifetime.

For all these reasons alone, your guests deserve to go home with a small but thoughtful token of your appreciation for making the shower a success. If you're on a limited budget, try to create your own shower favors, or choose less expensive ones from online sites. But whatever you do, don't cut out the baby shower favors altogether.

If you have friends with crafts friendly fingers, enlist their help to make some hand made baby shower favors in time for the big day. There's no limit to the things you could make. Beaded necklaces with large and small beads make a style statement. Place in an empty baby gift basket at the entrance or near the desert table after every one has finished dining, and let guests pick the ones they like.

Homemade goodies are always appreciated. Buy some flour, eggs, milk and sugar and bake up a storm! Cookies, delicious brownies, cupcakes - anything that you can whip up in batches can make delicious and welcome baby shower favors. Remember to pack in cellophane or translucent packaging and twist off at the top. Buy little bows or kids fancy hair clips, and attach to the tie twist for added appeal.

Have a Polaroid camera on hand, and take pictures of each guest with the parents to be at the shower. Gift them the picture as they leave. They'll have an everlasting memory of your baby shower favor.

Baby shower favors at online stores aren't as expensive as you think. Every time you buy in bulk, the retailer cuts costs and passes those savings to you, so you're likely to find inexpensive, but pretty favors that are within your budget.
